Tesco to slash organic milk price
UK – Supermarket chain Tesco has announced this week that it is to drop the price of its organic milk from this summer.
Speaking to ConnectingDairy News, a Tesco spokesman said that the price drop has been made possible through a deal with co-op Arla Foods. He stressed that the announcement will not affect the farmgate price of the milk.
Instead of having a number of organic milk suppliers, all Tesco organic milk will be supplied by Arla from the summer.
By bringing organic milk production onto one site, Tesco claims it will eventually be able to drop the price of organic milk by 11p (0.17 euro) per litre. The milk currently retails for 72p (1.17 euro) per litre.
