Emmi acquires Austrian Leeb Biomilch

Swiss dairy group Emmi has acquired a majority (66%) stake in the Austrian supplier of organic goat’s milk and dairy products, Leeb Biomilch GmbH. The remaining third of the business (34%) will stay with the previous owners Hubert Leeb and Jörg Hackenbuchner.

Goat milk products are among the most attractive niches in the dairy industry internationally and since 2010 Emmi has gradually expanded its international goat milk network.

“Leeb Biomilch GmbH does not only suit Emmi because of its goat milk products, but also because of its clear commitment to quality, innovation and sustainability”, said Urs Riedener, CEO of the Emmi Group.

Leeb Biomilch was founded in 2001 by Austrian food engineer Hubert Leeb, and now generates annual sales of over €15 million.

From Austria, Leeb Biomilch supplies customers throughout Europe. The company makes about half of its sales in its home market of Austria, with other important markets including Germany and the Netherlands, where, among other things, there is co-operation with the Emmi subsidiaries AVH Dairy and Bettinehoeve.

Emmi’s goat milk network now includes three goat milk processors in the USA (Cypress Grove, Redwood Hill, Jackson-Mitchell/Meyenberg), three in Europe (Bettinehoeve, NL Goat Milk Powder, Lácteos Caprinos ESP) as well as AVH Dairy, a Dutch global trading company.
