Swiss dairy giant Nestlé has removed itself from the Dairy Methane Action Alliance, formed in December 2023, according to Reuters news service. The alliance consists of industry players such as Danone and Starbucks, and has as its aim to reduce the impact of dairy farming on global warming, by publicly measuring and disclosing methane emissions from the supply chains. It was launched by the Environmental Defense Fund.
Nestlé says it will continue working towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions, including methane, and reaching its net zero commitment by 2050. The firm is now partnering with the World Farmers Organisation to make food systems more resilient to climate change. The two organisations will collaborate to understand farmers’ challenges, to promote awareness of regenerative agriculture, to strengthen farmers’ capacities, and to co-develop viable farming models that can also inspire and attract the next generation of farmers, Nestlé says. The World Farmers’ Organisation (WFO) represents over one billion farmers globally from national organisations and agricultural cooperatives in more than 50 countries.
