A conference on Milk as a vector for development is being held in Rennes, France  21-23 May. In industrialized countries as in developing countries, milk and dairy products represent an undeniable vector of local development and food safety.

Besides playing an unquestioned role in nutrition, these products often play a key role in local economies and regional development, with multiple development models due to local constraints and opportunities, all within a context of increasing globalization.

The objective of this conference is to exchange experiences of the diversity of observed milk-sector developments, of technical and sanitary issues, assemble the initiatives and networks involved, measure the importance of women in this development, and better identify the role, when present, of policies.

Three sessions are scheduled:
* Session 1: Diversity, heritage value, and technical and sanitary
challenges of local milk products: The central role of women
* Session 2: Regional characteristics and dynamics of milk-related regional
development
* Session 3: Goals and consequences of regulations and policies
