Get ready for World Milk Day
What plans do you have in place for World Milk Day on 1 June? In Israel, home of this year’s World Dairy Summit, it coincides with the same time as Shavuot, a harvest holiday. As Israel is said to be the land of milk and honey, people have dishes that are milk-based for World Milk Day. This includes the perennial favourite, cheesecake.
In Ethiopia, it is going to be celebrated through the help of USAID’s financial support and in collaboration with various NGOs and milk processors. A lot of activities are planned to create awareness among the population on the benefits of consuming milk, of which a quiz on national television is one.
In France, 10 liquid milk factories will open their doors to the public on the days around World Milk Day. Meanwhile, the UK will see the second annual Milk Race in Nottingham on 25 May, complete with double Olympic champion, Laura Trott, and Olympic gold medalist and last year¹s Milk Race champion, Dani King. In 2013, over 60,000 people came to see The Dairy Council bring back The Milk Race after a 20 year hiatus.
Whatever you do in your country whether it be eating cheesecake, riding a bicycle or going off to a dairy-themed quiz I wish everyone a happy World Milk Day. And remember, every day is a milk day.
