Synergies at Rosen Eiskrem
The takeover of a majority stake in Rosen Eiskrem by Germany’s largest milk processor DMK is aimed at synergies in marketing – although the formerly family-owned Rosen Eiskrem is to continue production as a separate concern initially, according to DMK. But it looks like management changes are to be imposed almost immediately at one of the Rosen company’s production sites, Nürnberg, with reductions in the 500-payroll feared. External consultants are also looking into Rosen Eiskrem supply contracts and starting optimisation of transport costs.
Rosen Eiskrem has three other production units with a total €160 million turnover. The former family ice cream company was founded 40 years ago and now exports to 17 countries within Europe plus Australia, New Zealand, Thailand and the United Arab Emirates. Annual output: 230 million litres of ice cream 90% of which is sold under private label agreements.
DMK runs its ice cream business through daughter company DMK Eis, grounded beginning of 2012. Based on earlier Nordmilch and Humana Milchunion ice cream output, this daughter company already exports ice cream to 25 countries with total turnover put at €140 million by the company.
