The increasing popularity of goat milk cheese in Germany and the Netherlands has led to a new range of products aimed at these markets from cream cheese specialists Petri Feinkost.

The Crementell products from Petri come onto the market at a time when the German demand for goat cheese has led to a doubling of sales within 10 years. Total sales last year (2005) were reckoned at just over 4000 tonnes. So far, though, about half on this consumption is imported from France.
Producing from a plant in Weserland, central Germany, Petri has been producing cream cheese since 1970 including the popular Petrella brand. Marketing of cheese from goat milk was started by the firm in 1998. The new range of mild, spreading cheeses from this milk is marketed under the Crementell label in 110g and 500g reclosable pots. A Crementell goat cheese roll flavoured with herbs and garlic is also produced for selling over the counter. Crementell is also now available marinated in vegetable oil with herbs and vegetables and packed for the self-service shelves.
