Chocolate milk is good for you

The news that cocoa processor Barry Callebaut has obtained a positive EFSA opinion about its health claims related to cocoa powder and its use in beverages ought to gladden the heart of anyone who has ever had a glass of delicious chocolate milk. I am somewhat prejudiced as chocolate milk was a key part of my North American childhood lunch time ritual. Interestingly, my British son prefers other flavours of milk (strawberry, banana) cold, and will only ingest hot cocoa.

It’s all to the good. Meanwhile, China continues to flex its economic muscle with the recent temporary ban on British cheese imports. I suspect that particular embargo will be lifted after some friendly discussions between the Chinese authorities and their British counterparts, but it goes to show what a heavyweight the Asian country has become.  Our news stories reflect that ­ see the one about Uruguay’s dairy exports.
