To graze or not to graze

The World Society for the Protection of Animals has been in touch. The WSPA is going to launch a campaign to encourage farmers to graze their cows versus using feed, and it has even gone so far as to commission research via the University of Wageningen, in order to obtain a fuller picture of the nature of grazing and intensive dairy farming. The report will be released at the end of July, and makes for compelling reading, looking at the grazing patterns in northwest Europe, with an emphasis on the situation in the Netherlands. The results can be surprising for those who think they know what economically the best method for dairy farming is. I suspect there will be a lot of discussion when it’s officially released. It’s also interesting to see where there is little or no grazing left.

I’d encourage you all to look at the website, www.wspa.org.uk
