The environmentally-friendly product

The rise of sustainability as a buzzword in the business world is actually old news in the dairy world. Dairy farmers and processors have long had to make the use of all the resources available, in order to produce at the best possible price. Nowadays, dairy is being recognised for its commitment to low environmental impact, as the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics has pointed out in a study. The idea that milk delivers the most nutrition at the lowest environmental impact and most reasonable cost is gaining wider currency.
I think the new Dairy UK campaign, ‘Dairy Makes a Difference,’ will continue that trend, and hopefully gets public knowledge to where it needs to be. Government can be somewhat cack-handed when it comes to helping the dairy industry, and this campaign has started right, with the governmental bodies. Lawmakers need to know how big dairy is for their rural voters, and what impact a healthy dairy industry has for them. And let’s face it we all drink milk and eat dairy. As consumers, we need to know too. More information, rather than misinformation, will ensure a healthy industry going forward.
