Asian markets are big business for Aussie exports

AUSTRALIA/ASIA &#8211, Japan, the Philippines and Malaysia are the top three importers of Australian dairy products for 1999/2000, according to the Australian Dairy Corporation.

Number one destination, Japan purchased products worth almost $440 million (269 million euro) &#8211, a figure representing just over 19% of Australia’s total dairy exports by value. Japan is also the peak destination for Australian exports by volume, with cheese and skim milk powder dominating. The Philippines accounts for just under 11% of exports, while Malaysia takes close to 6.4%.

Almost 74 million euro in exports, or just over 5%, were shipped to the USA. Skim milk powder, cheese and casein were leading categories in this market.

Thailand, Taiwan and Singapore each received around 5% of Australian exports followed by Saudi Arabia with 4.23% and the Netherlands and South Korea, both receiving 3.05%.
