German dairies Schwälbchen and Hochwald cooperate

German dairies Schwälbchen Molkerei and Hochwald Foods will cooperate in long-life milk production and raw milk sales. To this end, Schwälbchen executive Günter Berz-List and Hochwald CEO Detlef Latka have jointly signed a letter of intent. The cooperation is to be long-term and it is intended that Schwälbchen will move its  complete production of long-life milk to Hochwald.

“According to the agreement, Hochwald will as of 1 January 2017, produce our latest long-life dairy products. The legal independence of our company remains untouched,” says Günter Berz-List.

Schwälbchen dairy focuses on the marketing of high-quality milk and fresh products under its ‘Grünen Linie’ (Green Line) brand, as well as the coffee beverage brand Caffreddo.

With the production for Schwälbchen, Hochwald will utilise its production capacity better. The company has production capacity at its eight sites for fresh and long-life dairy products, which are sold under brand names such as Bärenmarke, Elinas and Hochwald.

The two companies will also cooperate in the commodities sector in the future. Schwälbchen will deliver around 20 million kg of milk to Hochwald’s Hessian location. But it should not change the conditions for Schwälbchen milk producers.

“The cooperation between our two companies has some advantages, so that the joint optimisation of production and logistics makes perfect sense,” says Latka.
