Award for innovation from MIV

The Milk Scientific Innovation Award from the German Dairy Industry Association (MIV) went to Thomas Kleinschmidt from Anhalt University of Applied Sciences this year. The prize is given for innovative milk-specific and practical achievements from the various scientific areas related to milk.

“With the Dairy Scientific Innovation Award Dr. Gisela Runge Prize 2022 given to Thomas Kleinschmidt, we are honouring his significant scientific achievements. Professor Kleinschmidt offers fundamental and at the same time practical scientific thinking and acting, notes Hans Besner, chairman of the MIV research working group.

The MIV prize of €10,000 can be awarded annually to personalities, who are significantly involved in milk-specific research and science. These can range from natural sciences to law and economics. What is decisive is the special practical relevance to milk and thus the importance for dairy practice and dairy science.

Kleinschmidt has been professor of food process engineering and dairy technology since 1993. He has developed significant new findings in connection with protein technology, powder technology, whey treatment and other areas and has prepared them in a practical way for the dairy industry.

Kleinschmidt has also been a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Dairy Industry Association since 2013.
