Growth and UHT

The news that UHT is set to grow by 12.8% by 2019, according to new research from Persistence Market Research, is good for dairy in general. As the report says, India and China, two of the largest consumers of milk globally, lack sufficient chill chains to keep fresh milk cold. Thus, UHT steps into the breach and will make that region the dominant consumers by 2019, the analysts note. Another benefit to UHT is that it is very efficient in serving the “on the go” market, where milk is consumed on the move. It can also be stored in school safely and consumed by children.

Meanwhile, the UN’s FAO section celebrated World Milk Day with countries around the globe. In places such as Canada, farmers used the day to remind governments of the contribution the dairy sector makes to the economy, and in Saudi Arabia, Tetra Pak reminded everyone about the benefits of UHT, in conjunction with its local partners including SADAFCO, Al Safi Danone and Nadec. The group rolled out awareness campaigns on various communication platforms, aiming to continuously raise consumer awareness about the valuable benefits of milk and, in line with its motto, protects what’s good, Tetra Pak has always believed in spreading its message of protecting bones through milk, healthy beverages and food consumption, to a wider audience, according to Ziyad Al Jadid, head of marketing at Tetra Pak Arabia.

In Honduras, the National Federation National Federation of Farmers and Ranchers of Honduras (FENAGH), the Honduran Chamber of Milk (CAHLE), Honduran milk processor (Aproleche) and Lacthosa Sula conducted an event with more than 1,800 school children in the Republic of Paraguay, Tegucigalpa and the school Soledad Fernandez of San Pedro Sula, in order to promote the importance and benefits of milk. During the event, Edgardo Leiva, director of Aproleche, stressed the importance of rural and urban Honduran schools allowing children access to milk, through the programme of the School Snack, considering that milk is one of the most important foods for children to grow up healthy and strong. “We consider it essential that the glass of milk is included in the School Lunch programme and all of our children should have access to milk,” he says. Very true.
