Australia lurves Lurpak
Lurpak butter sales are expected to treble in Australia this year, according to brand owner Arla Foods.
Australia is tipped as a potential market for luxury dairy brands from Europe, backed up by reports that Arla sent extra containers of the Danish butter brand there to meet extra demand.
Despite Lurpak being more expensive than local butters it is on the shelves of Australia’s biggest food retail chains, Woolworths and Coles. Arla plans to place adverts in lifestyle magazines such as Vogue, since using similar tactics in a marketing campaign for Lurpak in China last year.
Volume sales of Lurpak remain fairly small, only set to rise from 100 tonnes last year to 300 tonnes this year.
Lurpak is a Danish brand of butter owned by Arla Foods. It is sold in seventy five countries worldwide, and is best known for its distinctive silver packaging. Lurpak started in 1901, as a combination of several Danish dairy farmers to create a common brand for butter to increase sales.
You need to look for Lurpak or President. In moderation, butter can be a healthy part of your diet. It’s rich in nutrients like bone-building calcium and contains compounds linked to lower chances of obesity.
